Resolving the Exceeded Variant Limit for Wix Stores

Updated over 4 years ago

If you are a Wix Store, for each product, you can add:

  • Product Options: Each product can have up to 6 product options (e.g. size, color).

  • Choices: Each product option you create can have 30 option choices (e.g. the color option can have up to 30 color choices).

  • Variants: You can manage a total of 300 variants (e.g. small and blue, small and green, etc.) in the Manage Variants table.

If you exceed any of these limits, you will not be able to sync the product to your store.

To fix the issue, you must uncheck the box to remove variants on Modalyst. You must remove an entire Option or entire Choice for the issue to be resolved. Here are examples:

1 - You have 301+ variants - you can remove an entire Option

You cannot simply remove one variant. You must remove an entire Option. So, if your Option is the color Blue and the Choices are sizes M, L, XL, and XXL, you must remove the entire Option Blue and all of its Choices, which are sizes in this example. Once you remove all of the sizes of the color Blue, you will be able to sync the item if the count falls below 300 variants. If one size remains of the color blue, you will not have fully removed a variant to reduce the count.

In the image below, you can see that all of the sizes of the color Blue are unchecked.

2 - You have 301+ variants - you can remove an entire Choice

Once again, you cannot simply remove one variant - you must remove an entire Choice. From the example above, Choices are the sizes. To remove a Choice, you must remove all variants with a specific size.

So, if your Option is the color Blue and the Choices are sizes M, L, XL, and XXL, you must remove the entire Option - let’s say size M. This means that you will need to remove all size M across all Options (or sizes, in this example). If you have the colors Red, Orange, Yellow and Blue, then you must remove M from each of these sizes. If one size remains of the color Blue, you will not have fully removed a Choice to reduce the count. If the count remains higher than 300 variants, we cannot sync the item with Wix.

In the image below, you can see that all of the sizes of the color Blue are checked, except the size M.
